Specifically Trained for Teaching Students with Disabilities

Grand Prix Driving School is the only school on Cape Cod with the training, knowledge, and teaching techniques to instruct students with disabilities properly.

We have worked closely with students from Riverview School, Cape Abilities, the Department of Mental Health, the LIFE Program, and the Mass Rehab Commission. We have systems in place to help students with whatever they need.

Our instructors can help students with learning disabilities and cognitive or physical difficulties that might make learning to drive uniquely challenging. Email us or call and ask to speak with our special education coordinator, Lauren, to make a personalized plan for you.

Classroom-Specific Accommodations

Every student deserves a quality education so that they may become a safe driver. At Grand Prix we try to be as accommodating and inclusive as possible. We do our best to honor the accommodations of most IEP and 504 plans with rare exceptions, like when prohibited by state law.

  • Students may not use electronics in class, including phones, headphones, cameras, computers, or audio recording devices. If necessary, please contact the office to discuss alternatives.
  • Parents and others who are not enrolled in Grand Prix as students cannot attend or assist in class.
  • Students must take a class in at least three hours and 15-minute blocks (including a 15-minute break).
  • Please call the office or email us to set up accommodations for testing, attendance, note-taking, or anything else. Take these steps before class starts.

Students With Learning Disabilities

Grand Prix has a wide variety of programs and aides to help students succeed where they might have difficulty independently.

Depending on the student's age and individual needs, we can devise a plan to help get them on the road.

For some students, this might be as simple as extra time on tests, or for others, it might be private permit tutoring sessions. We have additional handouts and can arrange for oral exams or 1-on-1 testing.

Students and parents must discuss arrangements with the instructor before the start of class.

Students With Physical Disabilities

Depending on the student's limitations, Grand Prix may be able to help. However, we cannot help students who require car modifications, like hand controls.

We have helped students with limited vision, cerebral palsy, and sensory input disorders. Call for more details, and we will do our best to help you or direct you to someone who can.
